Synopsis

The General Dental Council Recommendations concerning the dental curriculum indicate that dental students should be able to understand human disease as far as is relevant to the practice of dentistry. Indeed, modern dental practice has an increasingly important basis in medicine and surgery, particularly with the rising elderly population and numbers of patients suffering various systemic disorders which as the immunological diseases. In addition, the increasing complexity of operative dental, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and oral medicine and pathology warrants a substantial knowledge of medical matters.
